Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar lavished praise on Prasidh Krishna after his inclusion in the ongoing first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test. He reckons that the Shubman Gill-led side's choice of making him play at Headingley was correct and suggested that the pacer will get better with time.
Prasidh, who made his debut in South Africa in 2023, is featuring in his third Test and has picked up three wickets in the first Test against England. The speedster made his comeback on Day 3 as he failed to provide ample support to fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in curbing England’s scoring rate.
“If you see Prasidh Krishna in this Test match as opposed to the Test he played for India earlier in South Africa, he’s looked the best to me. Yesterday, although he didn’t quite get the wickets, he was still India’s number two seamer. He was better than Mohammed Siraj, certainly more potent than Shardul Thakur.”
“So, India made the right choice and went for him; this is Prasidh Krishna doing the best he can. With time, if he gets a couple of wickets and builds confidence, he might just get better and better. I will not be critical of Prasidh Krishna with the way he’s bowled — he has done everything he possibly could to the best of his ability,” said Manjrekar on JioHotstar.
Coming back to the match, Jasprit Bumrah picked up a 14th five-wicket haul as the Shubman Gill-led side managed a slight first innings lead of six runs by dismissing England for 465 before the tea on the third day of the first Test match of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.
Harry Brook scored 99 runs, including 11 fours and two sixes, after his reprieve on the second evening before Prasidh Krishna dismissed him one short of a hundred. Before that, Brook and Jamie Smith (40) stitched a 73-run stand for the sixth wicket, then the former put on 49 runs for the seventh wicket with Chris Woakes (38). Woakes and Brydon Carse (22) added 55 runs for the eighth wicket before Bumrah polished off the tail to finish with 5 for 83.
