Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami has been ordered by the Calcutta High Court to pay estranged wife Hasin Jahan Rs 4 lakh on a monthly basis as maintenance charges. Out of Rs 4 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh will go to her wife and Rs 2.5 lakh will go to her daughter. This comes as a major setback for Shami in his divorce case against Hasin Jahan. The case was filed under the 'Protection Of Women From Domestic Violence' act.
“In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs. 1,50,000/- per month to the petitioner no.1(wife) and Rs. 2,50,000/- to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners," the court said in its order on July 1.
Shami had met his daughter last year
Last year, Shami had met his daughter Aaira and the duo were even seen shopping together. Everything looked to be fine until Hasin made some serious allegations regarding the father-daughter meeting. She accused Shami of never enquiring about his daughter and stated that he is only 'busy with himself'.
"It's just for the sake of showing off. My daughter's passport has expired. Shami's signature is required for the new passport. That is why she went to meet her father but Shami did not sign. He went to a shopping mall with her daughter. The company for which Shami advertises, he took her there. My daughter bought shoes and clothes from that shop. Shami does not have to pay if he buys anything from there. That's why she was taken there. My daughter wanted a guitar and camera, he didn't buy her those stuff," Hasil told anandabazar.com.
"Shami never enquires about my daughter. Shami is only busy with himself. He met her just a month back, but did not post anything back then. I think there was nothing to post now, so he uploaded this video," she added.
Notably, Hasin worked as a model and cheerleader for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL before marrying Shami in 2014 and giving birth to their daughter in 2015. It was in 2018 that their marriage started to break apart as Hasin accused Shami of domestic violence, dowry harassment and match-fixing. She also claimed that the Indian cricketer received money from a Pakistani woman.
It remains to be seen what will happen as the case progresses, however things aren't looking good for Shami as of now. There is also no certainty as to when the 34-year-old will be seen in an Indian jersey again. His last appearance for the Men in Blue came in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand.
