Veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been in brilliant form with the bat in the Test series against England so far. The 36-year-old currently has 327 runs under his belt in six innings, maintaining a sensational average of 109.00, with the highest score of 89. However, the all-rounder hasn't been able to replicate these performances with the ball, picking up only three scalps in as many games.
Jadeja needs 58 runs more to join the list
Jadeja's fabulous displays with the bat have left him on the verge of joining Sir Garry Sobers in an elite list. With 942 runs under his name while batting at the No.6 position or lower in 14 Tests held in England, Jadeja can become just the second visiting player to score over 1000 runs on English soil if he manages to put up 58 runs more in the upcoming match at Old Trafford.
Sobers is the best visiting lower-order batter to ever play in England with 1,097 runs in 11 Tests and 16 innings, including 4 centuries and 5 half-centuries. It will be a massive achievement for Jadeja if he manages to achieve this feat and it will only help in cementing his status as one of the finest modern day all-rounders.
The 36-year-old Jadeja has scored fifties in his last four innings of the series against England. He is among the top-scorers of the ongoing series which is quite a big thing especially for a player who bats in the lower-order. It remains to be seen if he manages to continue playing great knocks in the remaining two matches of the tour.
Meanwhile, the 22-run defeat to England at Lord's leaves India trailing the hosts 2-1 in the series. It is highly important for the Men in Blue to come out victorious in the fourth game in Manchester as any other result would leave them with no chance of winning the five-match series. Moreover, if the Three Lions manage to rack up a victory at Old Trafford, then they will end up sealing the series even before playing the fifth and final match. The upcoming Test in Manchester is set to commence from July 23.
