Ravindra Jadeja played a key knock of 89 runs as India continued to pile on misery for England on the second Day of the Edgbaston Test. Though the all-rounder missed out an incredible hundred, his partnership of 203 runs with captain Shubman Gill massively helped the visitors in breaching the 400-run mark comfortably on Day 2.
Jadeja was seen running on the middle part of the pitch
However, the opening session of the day also saw a controversial moment take place involving Jadeja, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes. The 87th over of India's inning saw umpire Sharfuddoula warn Jadeja for running down the pitch. Apparently, the Indian batter was very close to running on the middle part of the pitch. Then, Woakes would get involved in the drama and have a few words with Jadeja in the 89th over as the latter once again ran on the danger part of the pitch.
England captain Ben Stokes also seemed to be quite unhappy with Jadeja and both exchanged a few words on the pitch. Eventually, the umpire stepped in and was seen warning the 36-year-old in a video that is now making rounds on social media.
Coming to the match, following his huge stand with Jadeja, Gill would go on to form another big partnership of 144 runs with Washington Sundar. The 25-year-old would go on to bring up a record-breaking double-century as India easily went past the 500-run mark, something they had failed to do so in the first Test despite coming quite close.
Sundar would eventually get dismissed by Joe Root for 42 runs while on the other hand, Gill would go on to surpass 250 runs, taking the Men in Blue closer and closer to the 600-run mark. The batters have done a fantastic job in Birmingham by absolutely dominating against the England bowlers. Now, it will be up to the Indian bowlers to do their job once the first inning comes to an end and the hosts step out to bat.
