England Cricket Board (ECB) has released Harry Brook, Phil Salt and Matthew Parkinson from the ODI squad ahead of third and final ODI against India on July 17 at Old Trafford in Manchester. The three released players will represent their respective franchises on T20 Blast 2022 Finals day on July 16 which will include both semi-finals and final.
"The trio will travel to Edgbaston today to join their respective counties before returning to the England squad ahead of the third Royal London International at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday," the ECB was quoted as saying in a statement.
Brook, Salt and Parkinson have not got a chance in the ongoing ODI series against Rohit Sharma-led side. On the other hand, star players like Lancashire's Liam Livingstone and Jos Buttler, Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and David Willey, and Somerset's Craig Overton will not be a part of the T20 Blast finals day as they will play in the series decider against India.
Yorkshire will be the worst affected team of the lot as Willey is their star all-rounder and captain as well.
The first semi-final will see Yorkshire and Lancashire going up against each other. Hampshire and Somerset will clash in the second semi-final.
While Brook, Salt and Parkinson did not get game time in ODI series, they played in the three-T20I series which hosts lost by 1-2. Brook walked into the side in place of recently retired Eoin Morgan, Salt bolstered the middle order whereas Parkinson replaced leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who has taken leave for Hajj pilgrimage. Brook is the only player of the three who is yet to make his ODI debut.
In the first ODI, India dominated England and bundled them out for 110 at Kennington Oval, London. Jasprit Bumrah’s record-breaking six-fer reduced England to their lowest ODI total against India. In the second ODI, Reece Topley avenged the humiliation of first game with record-breaking six-fer at Lord’s to level the series 1-1 and bundled out India for 146 while chasing 247.
