With India's T20I captain Hardik Pandya sidelined due to a ligament tear, the question of leadership for the upcoming South Africa T20I series remains unresolved. Suryakumar Yadav has been ably leading the Indian side in the ongoing T20I series against Australia in Pandya's absence, but reports suggest that the BCCI is considering reinstating Rohit Sharma as T20I captain.

India and South Africa's upcoming Test series will comprise only two matches, a significant reduction from the customary three-match format. This marks the first time since the 2014-15 season that the two cricketing giants will engage in a truncated Test series.

The last time India toured South Africa for the three-match Test series, the Rainbow Nation defeated India 2-1.
