Former selector not happy with the way people criticised Virat Kohli; expresses disappointment

SportsTak

Just a day after Indian Test team’s 2-1 defeat against South Africa in the three-match Test series, Virat Kohli decided to relinquish his Test captaincy. Previously he had decided to step down as the T20 skipper of the Indian team as well and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier also decided to give the role of ODI captain of the Indian team to Rohit Sharma.

In recent times the tussle between BCCI and Kohli seemed to be never-ending.

More speaks

In a situation like this, former selector Kiran More has opened up on this issue. According to More, the way Kohli left is a “bit sad.” More believes that the way people have treated Kohli, “was not fair."

“The way he has left is a bit sad. The way people have treated him, and I am not talking of the BCCI, and criticised him was not fair. He has played a lot of cricket, he has done well for India. The way he played any form of cricket, he had that quality. He always showed the character that he wanted to win,” More told News18.

‘Disappointed’ More

More said that he was “disappointed” with the way people were talking about the Delhi-born batsman. The 59-year-old former

Indian cricketer called Kohli “a legend” and said that “the way people were criticising him were not good.”

“Let’s not forget he is a World Cup winner (2011). He has got 70 international hundreds and is a special player. I am disappointed with the way people were talking about him and the way his captaincy was criticised. For me, he is a legend. Performance-wise, we cannot touch him. I am not worried about him stepping down from T20 or ODI captaincy. That is part of life. The way people were criticising him was not good,” the 59-year-old former cricketer added.

After losing the Test series 2-1 against South Africa, Indian team would have desperately wanted to start the ODI series on a winning note. But under the leadership of KL Rahul, who was captaining the ODI team in absence of Rohit Sharma, Indian team conceded a 31-run defeat in the first ODI, played on January 19.
