India Test skipper Virat Kohli has clarified that he will be available for the three-match ODI series and had never asked for a break. Kohli put a rest to all speculations regarding him asking for a break from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the Test series in South Africa.

“I was contacted one and half hours before selection committee meet. The chief selector discussed the Test team. Before ending the call the selectors told me I won't be ODI captain and I was fine. There was no prior communication,” said Kohli in a virtual press conference on Wednesday (December 15)

“I was and I am available for selection all this time. You should not be asking me these questions, you should ask those who are writing these stories and sources .All these people who are writing are not credible. I was always keen to play ODIs,” added Kohli.

The opening Test match will be played in Centurion at the SuperSport Park from December 26 to 30. Johannesburg's Wanderers Stadium will be the host to the second Test between January 3 to January 7 next year. The third and final Test will be played in Newlands in Cape Town between January 11 to 15. Other than the Tests, India will also engage in a three-match ODI series starting January 19, 2022 while the T20I series was rescheduled for later.

BCCI had recently announced that newly-appointed Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma will miss the Test series against Proteas due to a hamstring injury.
