Virat Kohli-led Indian Test squad will fly to South Africa on December 16. Ahead of their departure, the squad has been dealt a huge blow as Rohit Sharma, the newly-elected vice-captain in the longest format, has been injured during a training session in Mumbai.

According to Sports Tak source, during the practice session, one of the throwdown specialist Raghavendra's delivery hit Rohit’s hand which left him in mild pain. However, the information regarding the seriousness of this injury of the 34-year old batsman has not come from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) so far.

“One of the ball he faced injured him mildly. There is nothing to worry about and he is fine. He stopped practicing as a precautionary measure,” the source said.

Two weeks left for Rohit
Team India will play the first Test of the three-Test series against South Africa on December 26. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test Rohit has around two weeks left to recover from the injury. On the contrary, if Rohit remains unfit, then Mayank Agarwal can be seen opening the innings with KL Rahul in the Centurion Test. Agarwal scored a brilliant century in the Mumbai Test against New Zealand to help India win the Test series.

However, the Indian team management would like to have Rohit fully fit and ready for the South Africa tour as soon as possible so that in the first Test match India can play with their best playing eleven.
