Everyone knows Virat Kohli's affinity towards former India's captain MS Dhoni who he has always admired and looked up to. Even when Virat stepped down from Test captaincy in an announcement made on a Twitter post, he didn't forget to thank the legendary Dhoni for believing in him with the captaincy role.
In a Twitter post Virat said," A big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a captain and found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward."
Virat also payed thanks to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the same tweet for giving him the opportunity to lead the country for such a long period of time. Further he extended his thanks to Ravi Shastri for their contribution in making him a better captain.
He wrote, "I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who brought into the vision I had for the team from Day one and never gave up in any situation...To Ravi Bhai and the support group who were the engine behind this vehicle that moved us upwards."
Shastri subsequently reacted to Virat's decision where he took to Twitter to post a photo of him with Kohli from the time when the duo were at the helm of affairs of the Indian men's cricket team. In his post Shastri wrote that it is a "sad day" for him.
“Virat, you can go with your head held high. Few have achieved what you have as captain. Definitely India's most aggressive and successful. Sad day for me personally as this is the team we built together,” Shastri tweeted.
Virat while announcing his resignation from Test captaincy said I had done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there.
"It's been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in right direction. I have done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Every thing has to come to a halt at some stage anf for me as Test captain of India, it's now," the post read.
Virat's decision came a day after India lost the three-match Test series against South Africa on Friday (January 14).
