Rohit Sharma became the highest ranked India batter and stormed into top 10 in the ICC's latest Test Batting Rankings released on Wednesday (July 19). Rohit's surge in the batting rankings came after his sensational century in India's first Test against West Indies. Rohit's ton was the only highlight of the match as debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal too cracked a century to make a splash in the Test rankings.
Riding on Rohit's incredible 103 and Jaiswal's robust 171 India secured an emphatic 141-run win over West Indies in the first Test of the two-match ICC World Test Championship series in Dominica.
Rohit's 10th Test ton (103) saw him jumping three places in the rankings, claiming a spot ahead of his teammates Rishabh Pant (11th) and Virat Kohli (14th). Meanwhile, 21-year-old Jaiswal too made a stunning entry into the Test batting rankings with his remarkable 171 off 387 against West Indies. Jaiswal bagged the Player of the Match award for his splendid 171, which was also the third-highest score for an Indian opener on debut. Jaiswal secured the 73rd place in the latest rankings after his first Test appearance.
As far as Test bowlers' rankings are concerned, India's ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin continues to lead the chart after his 12-wicket haul in the first Test against West Indies. Ashwin managed to improve his rating points by 24, widening the gap with the second-placed bowler, Australia's Pat Cummins, to a significant 56 points. Meanwhile, another Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja hopped three places up in the bowling standings after his five-wicket haul in the match. Jadeja's sensational all-round show saw him grabbing seventh position in the bowler's rankings.
Jadeja also remains the number one ranked all-rounder in the format on 449 points, 87 points ahead of Ashwin, who also continues to nurture his second place on 362 points
