India posted a big total on Day 2 of second Test at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain. The day started with Virat Kohli reaching his 29th Test ton. Then Ravindra Jadeja reached his half-century. In the second session, Ravichandran Ashwin batted with the tail to score his half-century and help the visitors post a total of 438 on the board.

Starting Day 2's play at 288/4, Kohli and Jadeja started off cautiously. Kohli got to his 29th Test ton from 180 deliveries with a boundary off Shannon Gabriel. Kohli also ended a near five-year drought of overseas centuries in Test cricket. He also equalled legendary Australian batter Don Bradman’s tally of 29 Test centuries. It was also the 34-year-old’s 12th international hundred against West Indies.

In the same over, Jadeja got to his half-century from 105 balls and celebrated it with by showcasing his sword-swishing tricks. Few overs after the drinks break, one of the rarest things happened. Kohli got run out trying to sneak a quick single. Alzarri Joseph hit the stumps from square leg to catch Kohli short of the crease. This was only the third time Kohli got run out in his Test career.

Kohli scored 121 runs from 206 balls including 11 fours. He shared a 159-run partnership with Jadeja. Kemar Roach ended Jadeja's stay at the crease. Jadeja went for a drive and the outside edge carried to wicketkeeper Joshua de Silva. Marais Earsmus had not given it out but DRS came to West Indies rescue as there was a minor spike. Jadeja scored 61 runs from 152 balls including five fours. No more wickets fell in the first session and India had 373/6 on the board.

Ashwin and Kishan started off well. Kishan got a reprieve when debutant Kirk Mckenzie dropped his catch. But Kishan threw his wicket away off the next ball with a lazy shot. Jason Holder got his second wicket of the game. Kishan scored 25 runs from 37 balls including four fours. In the next over, Ashwin was given out lbw but he used DRS successfully. Jaydev Unadkat became Jomel Warrican's second victim as he got stumped in an attempt to slog sweep. Warrican then dismissed Mohammed Siraj for an 11-ball duck.

After Siraj's wicket, Ashwin decided not to trust in debutant Mukesh Kumar's batting skills. Ashwin hit Roach for two consecutive fours to reach his half-century. He continued to attack and hit another boundary. But Roach had the last laugh as Ashwin got bowled trying to slash a slower delivery. Ashwin scored 56 runs from 78 deliveries including eight fours and India posted 438 on the board.
