West Indies Cricket on July 31 (Monday) announced a 15-member senior men's national squad for the five-match T20I series against India. All-rounder Jason Holder and explosive batter Nicholas Pooran returned to the Men in Maroon outfit after missing the ongoing ODI series. Windies ODI captain Shai Hope was also recalled to the T20 team along with express pacer Oshane Thomas. Hope last played a T20I game for the Windies in February 2022 while Thomas was last seen in a Men in Maroon jersey in 2021.
Rovman Powell will lead a strong Windies outfit that boasts enough firepower to dismantle India on any given day. Apart from the above-mentioned stars of Windies cricket, Shimron Hetmyer and vice-captain Kyle Mayers will add more explosiveness to the Men in Maroon squad.
"The squad is selected with the next ICC Men's T20 World Cup in mind," chief selector and West Indies great Desmond Haynes said.
"We are looking at various plans as we try to find the right combinations. As we prepare; we are looking to build a unit which we believe can do the job when we host the global event in just under a year.
"We have some match-winners in our line-up and we will look to have the right kind of preparation, starting here in Trinidad on Thursday," he added.
The T20 series will commence on August 3 in Trinidad with the next two matches scheduled to be played in Guyana. For the last two matches, the setting will be Florida, U.S.A.
