Following World Test Championship (WTC) final defeat at the hands of Australia, Team India is slated to tour Caribbean where they will lock horns with West Indies in the multi-format series. After some senior players' flop show in the just concluded WTC final, the Indian team management is expected to give chance to some young talents in the West Indies series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's name is amongst the few names which could get a chance to feature in India's squad in the West Indies tour. Given his recent batting exploits in the recently-concluded IPL 2023 and in domestic circuit, Jaiswal's chances to get India call-up are fairly high. Notably, Jaiswal has amassed 1,845 runs at an impressive average of 80.21 in 15 first-class games. The 21-year-old has walloped nine tons and two fifties in 26 first-class innings with 265 as his highest individual score. On top of that, he also cracked a splendid century and fastest fifty in the IPL 2023 to grab eyeballs.
Meanwhile, former India's star batter Wasim Jaffer has also thrown his weight behind Jaiswal's inclusion in India's squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. Jaiswal was also included in India's squad in the WTC final but didn't get chance to feature in the playing XI. With impressive temperament and technique, Jaiswal might replace Cheteshwar Pujara in India's Test squad for the West Indies series.
"Yashasvi Jaiswal is definitely one of them. He has been a very prolific scorer across formats, whether you talk about the IPL, domestic cricket or India A cricket. I think he needs to be a part of the squad," Jaffer told Sportskeeda.
"He was given an opportunity as well this time. He was a part of the team but Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were playing, so obviously he didn't get a chance. I feel he should be kept along with the team so that he can be groomed, and as and when an opportunity comes, he should get a chance," Jaffer added.
India will play a two-match Test series against West Indies which is slated to kick off from July 12.
