Mohammed Siraj picked up a fifer on Day 4 of second and final Test of the series to force a batting collapse at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. Siraj rushed through West Indies’ lower order to restrict them to 255 in the first innings. They were able to avoid follow-on but undid the hard work of Day 3, especially by skipper Kraigg Brathwaite who scored 75.
Starting the day at 229/5, debutant Mukesh got the first wicket in the first over of the day. Alick Athanaze got out leg before wicket as he failed to pick the inswinger. Athanaze scored 37 runs from 115 balls including three fours. Mukesh started off with a wicket-maiden. Mohammed Siraj struck in his first over of the day as well. Jason Holder was lured into a drive and edged it to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. Holder scored just 15 runs from 44 balls.
Alzarri Joseph managed to hit just one boundary. Siraj bowled with a scrambled seam to Joseph who got out leg before wicket as DRS went in India's favour. After few quiet overs, Siraj struck twice in an over to mop up West Indies' tail. First, Kemar Roach edged one to Kishan as he drove off an out-swinger. Then Shannon Gabriel got out leg before wicket for a golden duck. West Indies got all out for 255, adding just 26 runs on Day 4 in less than an hour.
Siraj completed his fifer with two blows in one over. He took five wickets for 60 runs in 23.4 overs including six maidens. His previous best bowling figures in the format were 5/73 against Australia in the famous Gabba Test.
After the first innings, India took a 183-run lead. Apart from Brathwaite, no other Caribbean batter was able to hit a half-century. Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Kirk Mckenzie got out in the 30s after playing themselves in.
Apart from Siraj's fifer, Mukesh and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each whereas Ravichandran Ashwin got the solitary wicket of Brathwaite with a beautiful delivery.
