As India and West Indies are gearing up for the second T20I on Monday (August 1), the Nicholas Pooran-led side have suffered a big blow. West Indies have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first tie against India on Friday.

Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after the West Indies were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," stated the official release.

Caribbean skipper Pooran plead guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Leslie Reifer and Nigel Duguid, the on-field umpires, the third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and the fourth umpire Patrick Gustard leveled the charge of the offence.

Rohit Sharma's buoyant India will look to continue the winning run and extend their domination over the West Indies when they clash in the second T20 International on Monday.

The visitors are coming off a comprehensive victory in the opener of the five-match series.

What separated the two teams in the first match was not only its all-round performance but also smart captaincy by Rohit who fielded his three spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi.

Another victory would only boost India's confidence further as they look to gain momentum ahead of the marquee T20 World Cup later this year.
