Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for three-ODI series against Zimbabwe next month. Senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others have been rested for the series.
All-rounder Deepak Chahar has made a comeback in the international side after recovering from injury. Similarly, Washington Sundar has been named in the squad as well. Sundar has been playing in County Championship for Lancashire whereas Chahar has recovered from back injury. Both all-rounders played their last international game in the home series against West Indies.
KL Rahul is missing from the squad as he is yet to recover from Covid-19 which prevented him from making a comeback against West Indies in the ongoing series. Earlier, Rahul was ruled out after Indian Premier League (IPL) due to groin injury. The opener had a successful surgery in Germany and started his rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru, where he contracted the virus.
Rahul Tripathi received maiden call-up. Tripathi is yet to make his international debut. He was selected for the T20I squad for Ireland as well but did not get to make his debut in the format.
In the absence of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the second-string squad once again. Recently, Dhawan-led India whitewashed West Indies in the ODI series for the first time on Caribbean soil.
India's tour of Zimbabwe will begin on August 18 at Harare Sports Club. The three-ODI series will end on August 22 after which Indian contingent will travel to United Arab Emirates (UAE) for Asia Cup.
