English teenager Ryana MacDonald-Gay stunned Indian batters with her swinging deliveries at Chester-Le-Street in a warm-up T20 game. At first, she wrecked the top-order with the new ball. Later, in the death overs, she did not let the tail wag and bagged a hat-trick to finish with six wickets for 18 runs to prevent India from posting a big total.
Ryana was introduced late in the powerplay overs. She got the wicket of Shafali Verma off the first ball of fifth over and broke the 41-run opening partnership. In the same over, she frustrated skipper Harmanpreet Kaur with a series of dot balls and then got her wicket with a huge inswinger. Harmanpreet got out for a five-ball duck.
Later, in the slog overs, she bowled the 18th over and got the wicket of hard-hitting all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar. She got bowled as well. Vastrakar scored 16 runs from 12 deliveries and her wicket made a big difference to the total.
England Development Squad skipper Tammy Beaumont gave the teenager the opportunity to bowl the last over. She started off with the wicket of Deepti Sharma off the third ball of the over. Deepti went for a big shot but got caught well inside the boundary. Similarly, Sneh Rana got caught as well. On the hat-trick ball, she bowled a near unplayable delivery to a no.11 batter. Renuka Singh got out for a golden duck as Ryana completed a memorable hat-trick.
In her four overs, Ryana bowled a total of 14 dot balls including one maiden over. Her bowling display restricted India to 149. For India, Sabbhineni Meghana top-scored with 41 runs from 30 deliveries including two fours and three sixes. Dayalan Hemalatha (26) and Richa Ghosh (22) got off to decent starts but could not carry on.
Chasing 150, England Development Squad lost opener Marie Kelly early. She got stumped off Deepti's bowling in her first over. However, the practice match could not be completed as rain played spoilsport.
