Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani said that it would be nice to dismiss Shubman Gill in the opening game of five-T20I series starting July 6 at Harare Sports Club. India have a second-string side to Zimbabwe under the leadership of a young Gill.
Muzarabani who was the net bowler for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 said that he respects Gill but wants to consider him just like any other player.
"I think I'm a bit different to probably some of the other bowlers. I do give Shubman Gill a lot of respect because he's already performed a lot in international cricket. He's actually a big name in cricket world. But as for me, I just take every wicket as it comes, actually. So I don't really look at any player, and want to make any bunny or anything like that," said Muzurbani in an interaction with India Today.
Muzarabani is focused on winning the game for Zimbabwe instead of focusing just on Gill. He recognises the talent Gill possesses.
"The goal is to win the game for Zimbabwe. Either take a wicket or don't take the wicket. So it's just all about us as a team and try and do what's required for me to win the game. So I'm not really looking at the names. Either I get them out or don't. If I get them out, it's good for the team. So that's just how I look at it. But, of course, Shubman is a good player. It'd be really nice to get him out," the 27-year-old added.
Zimbabwe coach says Gill’s record ‘speak for itself’
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe head coach Justin Sammons lauded Gill as well who he saw in action during December 2021.
"Shubman is a superb cricketer, I remember first seeing Shubman, I think I was with the Proteas. We were playing that Test series against India. I think it was December 2021. He didn't get any game time there, but you could see his work ethic and how professional he was in the way he went about his business in the nets during that Test series was something exciting to watch. And like I say, his record speaks for itself," Sammons said on the eve of the series opener.
