IPL team gets fined 9 lakh INR for posting video from match day.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a warning to all players, commentators, IPL owners, and social media teams of all IPL franchises about posting pictures or videos on their social media handles during a live IPL game. During a past incident, a former Indian batter, who is currently part of the commentary team posted a picture of himself while commentating in an IPL game. However, he was later asked to remove the post by a BCCI official, who has to make sure that commentators don’t post pictures or clips from any part of the stadium during match days. The individual had almost one million followers on social media so he refused to take it down but later did it after constant requests. This was just one of such incidents.

Official informs about BCCI rules

A BCCI official informed that BCCI is pretty strict as the broadcasters have paid a hefty amount of money to gain the rights. There is a team that keep watch on all IPL teams and commentators.

"The broadcasters have paid big money for IPL rights. So commentators cannot post videos or photographs on match day on social media. There have been instances where commentators have done an ‘Instagram Live’ or posted a photo from the ground. One video got one million views. Even IPL teams can’t post videos of live games. They can post a limited number of photographs and can give live match updates on their social media platforms. If found guilty, a franchise will be fined," a BCCI official was quoted by Indian Express.

"Even players have been told to be mindful of social media posts on match days. All posts by players are being monitored. They had been informed of the rules but we found that some of them have not followed it," the official added.
