The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was expected to be Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s last hurrah. Wherever Dhoni played, a sea of yellow could be seen in the stadium supporting the former Indian captain as they thought they were seeing a glimpse of Dhoni for the last time in the IPL. However, Dhoni played his cards close to the chest and kept everyone guessing. During post-match presentations, he would leave subtle hints. It was not until the end that Dhoni revealed that he was overwhelmed with the love he had received and would like to don the yellow jersey again. After going under the knife, Dhoni is set to captain CSK again in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, retirement speculations are rife. But CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan is still not sure whether this will be Dhoni’s last IPL.
Dhoni will decide himself," Viswanathan told Times Now.
"He has not told us anything now, and it will be his call. So far, he has not given any indication to us either," he added.
Earlier, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction, head coach Stephen Fleming was asked about Dhoni’s successor as captain.
"We've had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point., but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion isthere for the team and franchise, we'll roll on," Fleming replied in the press conference.
Meanwhile, Dhoni was in Dubai on the day of the auction. Unlike Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant he did not attend the auction. In a video that is making rounds on social media, Dhoni and Pant were seen playing tennis.
