Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting offered a big update on captain Rishabh Pant's fitness after the team's Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3 (Wednesday). Pant played a belligerent knock of 55 runs off 25 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes. The left-handed batter was one of the two DC batters who managed to score runs against the KKR.

Pant looked in visible discomfort during the match against the KKR and even received treatment from the physio. It seemed like the DC skipper was facing trouble with his knee, especially after wicket-keeping for two hours as Delhi took a lot of time to finish their innings with the ball.

Ponting said that Pant may have suffered from cramps due to exhaustion but affirmed that there is nothing to worry about the DC captain's fitness.

"I saw he called a physio out. It might have just been a bit of tiredness. Looked like he was moving pretty well when he batted. I think we should just concentrate on the way he batted tonight. I did not see him hobbling at all after he called the physio out. I saw him doing a little bit of stretching, so there might be a little bit of cramp," Ponting said in the post-match press conference.

Ponting lauds Pant's performance

While the DC's bowling attack was destroyed by the KKR batters in Visakhapatnam as Shreyas Iyer's team registered the second-highest score in IPL history, Rishabh Pant's performance was the lone positive for the franchise. Ponting appreciated Pant's display with the bat and affirmed that it's a good sign for the team moving forward.

"Pleased for him, what he did with the bat. A situation like that, where he had to go out and attack from the start is probably a scenario that he needed just to get some confidence back. He is actually had two good games with the bat now which is great," said Ponting.
