On the double-header Saturday, Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Pat Cummins' Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the second match of the day. Iyer will lead KKR after missing the previous edition due to a back injury. Also, Cummins will make his IPL captaincy debut.
While KKR finished seventh on the IPL 2023 points table, SRH were at the bottom with just four wins from 10 games. KKR’s two-time IPL-winning captain Gautam Gambhir has returned as a mentor whereas SRH have backed Australia’s ODI World Cup and World Test Championship-winning captain to change the franchise’s fortunes.
SRH have not been able to qualify for playoffs in the last three seasons. KKR have had the same fate in the last two seasons. They reached the final under Eoin Morgan’s leadership in IPL 2021.
