IPL 2024 Orange Cap: MI’s Rohit Sharma rises to fourth position with unbeaten century against CSK

Rohit Sharma entered the Orange Cap race with a century against CSK.

He occupied the fourth position after smacking an unbeaten 105 in a losing cause.

Mumbai Indians (MI) former skipper Rohit Sharma has entered the orange cap race in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with an unbeaten knock of 105 off 63 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 14 at Wankhede Stadium. Rohit climbed to the fourth position in the list of leading run-scorers with 261 runs from six matches at an average of 52.20. Despite his knock, the opener failed to lead MI to a victory as they fell short of the target by 21 runs. 

 

Rohit has replaced the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill, who sits in fifth position with 255 runs from six matches. Gill has hammered two half-centuries this season at an average of 51.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli remains at the top with 319 runs from six matches at an average of 79.75. Kohli has scored two fifties and a hundred in this season. Among the top 20 batters Kohli has the best average. 


Rajasthan Royals (RR) duo Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson remain at their respective position on second and third. Parag is following Kohli with 284 runs from six matches at an average of 71. 


RR skipper Sanju Samson has scored three fifties this season and has 264 runs from six matches at an average of 66. 


Interestingly, there are only Indian batters in the contention of the orange cap. Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Nicholas Pooran occupies the ninth spot with 223 runs.

Changes expected after RCB vs SRH

RCB will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on April 15. RCB’s Kohli is set to remain at the top . Meanwhile, the focus will be on SRH’s young batter Abhishek Sharma, and their wicket-keeper Heinrich Klassen. Both were in contention but are currrently out of top 10 run-scorers.
