Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a brilliant century in CSK's losing cause.

The race for the IPL 2024's Orange Cap, awarded to the season's leading run-scorer, continued to heat up following Chennai Super Kings (CSK) versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s encounter on April 23. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad hit a century in CSK's losing cause against LSG at the Chepauk stadium to join the feisty Orange Cap race. He scored an impressive unbeaten 108 off 60 balls, however, his efforts went in vain and CSK lost the match by six wickets. With this performance, Ruturaj has overtaken Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) Travis Head, who now drops to the third spot. Recently, Head scored 89 off 32 balls in a game against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 20. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma has fallen out of contention in the orange cap race, while Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Riyan Parag now holds the fourth position. RR captain Sanju Samson, who scored 38 off 28 balls in a match against MI on April 22, is currently fifth in the race for the orange cap.

At the top, Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) star player Virat Kohli remains comfortably in the lead, although he was dismissed for just 18 runs in the recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
