The race for the IPL 2024 playoffs has gotten really interesting after the thrilling clashes on the doubleheader Sunday (May 12). In the first match, defending champions Chennai Super Kings defeated Rajasthan Royals by five wickets and reached the third spot on the points table. They now have secured seven wins in 13 matches. RR is on the second spot with eight wins in 12 matches but have lost its winning momentum after its third straight loss.
In the second game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) became the first team to win five straight matches in this season and are well alive in the playoff race. RCB defeated the Delhi Capitals by 47 runs and moved up to the fifth spot in the points table above DC and LSG. However, this loss has hit DC's chances to qualify for the playoffs really hard. They will be facing LSG in their final clash.
With RCB climbing to the fifth spot, DC and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have gone down to sixth and seventh spots respectively. Till now, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the only team who have qualified for the playoffs. KKR in their last outing defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs and remains the table toppers. Among the top four, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stands in the fourth spot with seven wins in twelve matches and are alive in the playoffs race. SRH had a memorable win in their last encounter against the LSG by 10 wickets. Meanwhile, MI and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are standing at the ninth and tenth spots respectively, and are out of contention for playoffs.
