IPL 2024 Purple Cap: Jasprit Bumrah misses out on reclaiming top spot; CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman climbs to third position after clash against MI

Mustafizur Rahman rises to third position in the IPL 2024 Purple Cap race.

Mustafizur has snared 10 wickets from five matches of the IPL 2024.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has climbed to the third position in the IPL 2024 Purple Cap race as he bagged the wicket of Tim David during the clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 14 at Wankhede Stadium. 

 

Mustafizur has claimed a total of 10 wickets from five matches of the IPL 2024 including a four-wicket haul. Mustafizur surpassed Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) speedster Kagiso Rabada, who has taken nine wickets from six matches. Rabada is now in the fourth place in purple cap contention.

Meanwhile, MI's bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah remained in the second spot as he went wicketless against the CSK on April 14. Bumrah has scalped 10 wickets from six matches. He briefly donned the purple cap after taking a five-wicket haul against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

 

Bumrah has an economy rate of 6.08, which is the best among 10 leading wicket-takers in the ongoing season. Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal holds the purple cap with 11 wickets to his name. He took one wicket against PBKS to reach the top. Interestingly, Chahal is the only spinner, who is in contention to win the purple cap. The next on the list is Delhi Capitals' (DC) Kuldeep Yadav at no.15 with six wickets from three games.

 

DC left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed also retained his spot of number five as he has taken 9 wickets from six matches.

 

Matheesha Pathirana entered the top 10 with took four wickets as CSK defeated MI by 20 runs in match 29 of the IPL 2024.

No changes are expected after RCB vs SRH 

On April 15, RCB will be facing the SRH in Bengaluru and changes are expected in the top five until skipper Pat Cummins takes three or more wickets. Cummins has six wickets from five outings. There are no bowlers from RCB who can enter the contention as their bowling has been ordinary this season.
