Chennai Super Kings (CSK) left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has re-entered the top five contenders for the IPL 2024's purple cap. In a recent match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 23, Mustafizur took a wicket but gave up 51 runs in 3.3 overs. This performance has moved him ahead of Mumbai Indians' (MI) Gerald Coetzee, who now occupies the fifth spot in the purple cap standings. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings' (PBKS) Sam Curran has fallen out of contention for the purple cap. Gerald Coetzee recently made his mark in the purple cap race by taking three wickets and conceding only 32 runs against PBKS on the same day. PBKS bowler Harshal Patel is currently in third place and Rajasthan Royals' (RR) star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is in second, both having claimed 13 wickets from eight matches. Harshal Patel boosted his standing with a three-wicket haul against MI on April 18.
MI’s leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah continues to top the purple cap leaderboard, not only for his wickets but also for maintaining an exceptional economy rate, sharing the same wicket tally as Chahal and Patel.
