Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was slapped with a Rs 12 lakh fine after the franchise registered its first win of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The IPL penalised Pant after the Delhi Capitals maintained a slow over rate in the match against the Chennai Super Kings. Since it was Pant's first offence, he was charged with Rs 12 lakh. Moving forward, the DC captain Pant will have to be extra cautious as two more offences will lead him being suspended for one match.
"Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on March 31," the IPL said in a release.
"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the release added.
Second suspension of the season
Earlier, Gujrat Titans captain Shubman Gill was the first skipper to be penalised by the league for maintaining a slow over rate in the ongoing season. Coincidently, Gill also committed the offence during the Gujarat Titans' match against the Chennai Super Kings. Gill too was fined a sum of Rs 12 lakh and received a warning from the league.
