The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) extended their premier pacer Mustafizur Rahman's No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024. Mustafizur will now be able to play til CSK's clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 1. But BCB cricket operations chairman, Jalal Yunus doesn’t seem to be pleased with Mustafizur’s stint at the IPL and made a "nothing to learn" remark. He also claimed that CSK doesn't care about his fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.
"Mustafizur has nothing to learn from playing in the IPL. Mustafizur's learning process is over. Rather, there are many players in IPL who can learn from him. Bangladesh will not benefit from this," Yunus said, as quoted by Daily Star.
Yunus said that the reason behind recalling him for the Zimbabwe series is not just game time before the mega event but the board is concerned about his workload as well.
"Our concern is Mustafizur's fitness. They want to take 100 per cent from him. They don't have a headache about his fitness, but we do. The reason we are bringing back Mustafizur is not just to play in the Zimbabwe series, but if he is brought here, we will plan him with the workload. But that plan won't happen if he's in IPL," Yunus further added.
Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Sri Lanka at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas on June 7. They are placed in Group D.
Mustafizur's performance in IPL 2024 so far
Mustafizur is in the race of purple cap in his debut season with CSK. The left-arm pacer has taken 10 wickets from five games and is fourth on the list of leading wicket-takers. His best performance came on CSK debut in the IPL 2024 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when he registered a four-wicket haul.
The 28-year-old will be seen in action against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side is placed third on the points table with four wins from six games.
