Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had a night of milestones as Hardik Pandya's MI is taking on Sam Curran-led Punjab Kings in match 33 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, on April 18 (Thursday).
Rohit unlocks new milestones
Rohit Sharma was playing his 250th IPL match. He became the second only cricketer to reach this milestone after legendary cricketer and former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni. The CSK star has played in 256 matches. Right behind Rohit, is Dinesh Karthik with 249 IPL matches.
The night got more iconic for Rohit Sharma as he also completed 6500 IPL runs. He became the fourth batter in history after Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and David Warner to reach this milestone. He also surpassed his former MI teammate Kieron Pollard to become the highest six-hitter for the Mumbai Indians franchise. He now has 224 sixes while playing for MI.
Sam Curran dismisses Rohit
Rohit had a big night of milestones but he couldn't seal it off with a big knock as his innings was cut short by Punjab Kings' stand-in skipper Sam Curran. Rohit got out after scoring 36 runs off 25 balls. He did get the start but failed to turn it into a good knock. Curran later also got the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav and ended his knock at 78 runs off 53 balls.
