Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad once again put their explosive batting on display after breaking the record for the highest score in IPL history for the second time in the same season. SRH posted 287/3 against Royal Challenger Bengaluru in match 30 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, on April (Monday). Travis Head's maiden IPL century and Heinrich Klaasen's blazing fifty were the highlights of this inning.
Head's fifty and Klaasen's fifty steal show in Bengaluru
Travis Head hit the fourth fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League as he smashed it in just 39 balls. However, after his departure, RCB had to deal with Heinrich Klaasen who hit a blazing half-century. SRH broke its own record for the highest IPL score. They scored 277 runs against Mumbai Indians earlier in the tournament but even outclassed that performance and breached that landmark effortlessly.

First an opening partnership of 108 runs between Abhishek Sharma (34 runs off 22 balls) and Trvaid Head (102 off 41 balls). Then the century from explosive Aussie batter and this was followed by a fifty from Proteas heavy hitter Heinrich Klaasen (67 runs off 31 balls). The remaining job was done by former SRH captain Aiden Markram (32 not out off 17 balls) and young Abdul Samad (37 not out off 10 balls). Both of them provided Hyderabad with a finishing push. 287/3 is also the second-highest total in T20 history.
SRH also broke RCB's record for most sixes in a single IPL innings. Bengaluru smashed 21 sixes in the match against Pune Warriors India back in 2013 and now Hyderabad hit 22 against RCB itself. Prior to this season, RCB's 263/5 was the highest IPL score for more than a decade but that record has been broken three times in just 30 IPL 2024 matches. Twice by SRH (287/3 vs RCB, 277/3 vs MI) and once by KKR (272/7 vs DC).
Head addresses his century
Head said how SRH tried to maximise their opportunity and utilise the powerplay completely. He also talked about how Pat Cummins and Daniel Vettori keep on pushing the batters to perform better and showcase their full capability.
“Nice wicket. Got to contribute at the right time. Just tried to maximise my opportunities. We got off to a really nice start. I don't know, that was proper batting. We have tried to take on the game (after quick starts). We just try to maximise the powerplay and then we try to keep going. Pat (Cummins) and Dan (Vettori) put pressure on the batting lineup to make sure we keep going. All the guys are stepping up in each game,” said Travis Head in mid-inning interaction.
