Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad ended his team's two-year-long century drought after hitting a ton in the match against Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, on April 23 (Tuesday). The last century for CSK came in 2021 and it was also from Gaikwad in the match against Rajasthan Royals. This is also the 8th ton of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024
Gaikwad's 2nd IPL ton
This is Gaikwad's second IPL century and he has also become the first CSK captain to hit an IPL century. He completed his half-century in 28 balls and then took 28 more balls to complete his ton and reached the milestone in 56 balls. This was a crucial knock from the skipper as the team lost two big wickets inside the batting powerplay and then lost Jadeja in the 12th over.
He along with Shivam Dube helped Chennai cross the 200-run mark and post a massive total in front of the Lucknow side. Their 104-run partnership put the hosts on top. Dube did get out after scoring 66 runs off just 27 balls before getting run out in the final over.
CSK post 210/4 vs LSG
Chennai Super Kings posted 210 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. MS Dhoni hit a boundary on the final ball and helped the hosts add some additional runs to their total against Lucknow.
However, it was Gaikwad's unbeaten ton (108 not out off 60 balls) that was the real hero of Chennai's innings along with Dube's blazing half-century.
