Rishabh Pant is expected to make his return to the field in the upcoming IPL 2024.

Pant is unlikely to keep wickets for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season.

India's dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on February 12 provided a major fitness update to his followers a few weeks ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pant posted a video of his journey after the horrific car accident that has kept him away from the game for more than 13 months now. He posted a video of walking with the help of a walker to jogging without any discomfort.

“Seems like you forgot. Let me remind you... Remember when it was hard and it was overwhelming and you felt afraid and still walked alone? You didn't have the answers then and couldn't see the way and wanted to give up? You still kept going. Never forget that,” Pant wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

When Pant felt scared

In a recent interview with Star Sports, Pant revealed how people helped him as his car went up in flames.

"There was someone around so I asked if he could help getting the leg back in the position. He helped the knee get back in place," he said.

“If there was any nerve damage, there was a possibility of amputation. That is when I felt scared.”

Ponting on Pant’s chances of playing in IPL 2024

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting gave an update on whether Pant will be seen in action in the upcoming season. Ponting made it clear that Pant is unlikely to keep wickets for Delhi Capitals (DC).

"Rishabh is very confident that he's going to be right to play. In what capacity we're not quite sure yet. You would have seen all the social media stuff, he's up and about and running well. But in saying that we're only six weeks away from the first game as well. So we're not sure if we'll get wicketkeeping out of him this year," Ponting said at an event after becoming Major League Cricket's (MLC) Washington Sundar's head coach.

"But I'll guarantee if I asked him now he'll say, 'I'm playing every game, I'm keeping every game and I'm batting at No.4.' That's just what he's like, but we'll keep our fingers crossed," he added.

However, Ponting wasn’t sure whether Pant will lead DC in the upcoming season. If he is unavailable for a few games, David Warner is likely to continue as captain.
