One-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion Rajasthan Royals announced Tanush Kotian as the replacement for veteran spinner Adam Zampa. In a statement issued by the IPL on March 22 (Friday), the league announced the decision taken by the Royals franchise after Zampa pulled out of the cash-rich tournament in the eleventh hour, citing personal reasons. Tanush Kotian played an important role in Mumbai's 42nd Ranji Trophy triumph earlier in the month.
Who is Tanush Kotian?
Tanush Kotian is a 25-year-old all-rounder from Mumbai. In the last couple of years, Kotian performances have come leaps and bounds and he played an instrumental role in Mumbai lifting the Ranji Trophy title for the record 42nd time in 2024.
Kotian's skill-set as an off-spinner has been widely applauded by the pundits of the game while he has the talent and potential to contribute handy runs with the bat. Until now, Kotian has never featured in the IPL before. He has joined the Royals franchise for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Talking about his performance in domestic cricket, the all-rounder has played 23 T20s and bagged 24 wickets at an economy rate of 6.07. With the bat, he has scored 62 runs in nine innings.
Talking about his First-Class career, the 25-year-old has played 26 matches and bagged 75 wickets. He has scored 1,152 runs with the bat with one century and 11 half-centuries to his name. He has represented Mumbai in 19 List-A matches.
