"Playing against Chennai is obviously always a special occasion, a big game, and the southern derby as they call it," Kohli told RCB Bold Diaries before the opening game," Kohli said in RCB's Bold Diaries.
"It's nice to play in front of very passionate Chennai fans. And good to catch up with MS, it's been a while," he added.
MS Dhoni quits CSK captaincy
In a decision that surprised millions of cricket fans around the world, MS Dhoni decided to step down from the post of Chennai Super Kings captain on March 21 (Thursday). Dhoni's decision was announced on the eve of IPL 2024 while Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed the new skipper of the franchise.
Dhoni will play as a wicketkeeper-batter in the 17th season of the cash-rich tournament after relinquishing the post of captaincy. Having said that, the veteran leader will groom the newly-appointed captain Ruturaj throughout the competition.
Virat Kohli returns to cricket after 2 months
Meanwhile, the fans are eagerly waiting to watch Virat Kohli play cricket again. The maverick batter was sidelined for two months after he opted out of India's home Test series against England due to the birth of his second child. Kohli's return to the cricket field will be against Dhoni and CSK, which makes the opening match of the IPL even more mouth-watering.
Kohli would look to start the new season right from where he had left last year. In his last IPL knock, Kohli scored his seventh century of the cash-rich tournament.
