Highlights:

The first super-over was a low-scoring one.

Chris Gayle made it look easy for Punjab as they overpowered MI in the second super-over.

Since the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been plenty of super-over finishes. However, there has been only one match that was decided after two super-overs. The rare match was played in IPL's 2020 edition between Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians and KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).

Interestingly, on the same day, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders's (KKR) clash was decided by super-over in the afternoon.

Rahul fails to finish it off

The historic match was played in Dubai as IPL was shifted out of India due to COVID-19 pandemic. Quinton de Kock's half-century followed by Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile's cameos helped MI post 176/6 on the board.

In the run chase, Rahul played the anchor role. However, he could not finish the game and got bowled by Jasprit Bumrah in the 18th over. After Rahul's 51-ball 77, Punjab needed 24 more runs from 15 balls. Deepak Hooda and Chris Jordan could not finish the game as the latter was run out of the last ball.

Low-scoring super over

Rahul walked out to bat with Nicholas Pooran against Bumrah. Pooran lost his wicket on the second ball. Bumrah did not concede a single boundary and Rahul got out lbw on the last ball. Punjab scored just five runs in the super-over. It was expected to be an easy finish for MI but Mohammed Shami had other plans. After three singles, he bowled a dot to Rohit. On the penultimate delivery, he managed a single. The super-over ended with a single as De Kock was run out.

Gayle, Agarwal make it look easy as MI miss the trick

In the second super-over, MI batted first. Shami could not be used so the ball was handed to Jordan. Pollard and Hardik Pandya walked out to bat. Pollard hit a boundary on the third ball. Pandya was run out on the next. Pollard faced the last two deliveries and MI scored 11 runs in the super over.

Trent Boult who conceded 48 runs from his quota of four overs was given the ball. Chris Gayle walked out to bat and smashed the first ball for a six. After a single, Mayank Agarwal hit a four to level the scores. He finished the game with a boundary as Punjab won with two balls to spare.
