Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have been going through their worst-ever season with six consecutive losses. Their overseas recruits, mainly bowlers have been lacklustre and conceded too many boundaries in slog overs. Under these circumstances, the team management have been concerned about their imbalanced bowling attack.
Meanwhile, the team management is reminded of one mistake they made on the auction table despite skipper Rohit Sharma being adamant on picking him. They did not pick a veteran fast bowler who has over 80 wickets in his IPL career.
It is possible that the franchise may rope in a long-time member of Mumbai Indians (MI) squad mid-season. The Mumbai-born bowler has a lot of experience bowling on Mumbai and Pune pitches over the years playing in domestic cricket which can come in handy for the rest of league matches.
MI are currently at the bottom of the table. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Basil Thampi, their fast bowlers have been below par.
Tymal Mills was hit for 54 runs in his previous game. The English left-arm fast bowler did not even get to complete his full quota of four overs. On the other hand, Daniel Sams was hit 35 runs in a single over by Pat Cummins and hasn’t been picked in the side since.
MI's next encounter will be against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on April 21, 2021. Similar to MI, CSK are going through a tough season as well but have registered one win from their six games under the leadership of new skipper Ravindra Jadeja.
In theory, MI can still make it into the playoffs if they win their next eight games, which will be a herculean task to pull off even for a five-time IPL winner.
