Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh bowled exceptionally well to help his side beat Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium by 13 runs. Arshdeep was given the task to defend 16 runs in the last over against Tim David and Tilak Varma. He executed his plans perfectly and took two wickets in the final over. After the game, Arshdeep also revealed how he solved his no-ball problem.
“(It) Feels good whenever I take wickets. Right now I feel even happier as the team won. I have shortened my run-up as it helped me with the no-ball problem and I am enjoying my cricket at the moment,” the 24-year-old told the broadcasters.
Commentator Danny Morrison asked about his heartbeat while bowling the final over to which he replied, “Danny you should come and stand next to me, the heartbeat is not even close to 120.”
Arshdeep took four wickets and conceded just 29 runs from his quota of four overs. He started off with the wicket of Ishan Kishan in his first over. In the 18th over, he got PBKS back in the game with the wicket of a rampant Suryakumar Yadav who was at his best. In the last over, he took the wickets of Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera off consecutive deliveries. He broke the middle stump with perfectly executed yorkers.
Arshdeep also became the fifth bowler to take 50 wickets for the Punjab-based franchise. In the ongoing season, he is expected to go past Mohammed Shami and Axar Patel who have 58 and 61 wickets to their name for PBKS respectively. With a four-fer, Arshdeep also got the purple cap. He has taken 13 wickets from seven games already.
Arshdeep did not get the 'Player of the match' award. Skipper Sam Curran who scored 55 runs from 29 balls was adjudged ‘Player of the match’ but he did not feel that he deserved it. “I don't think I should be getting the Man of the Match considering how the boys closed the game out there,” the stand-in skipper said.
With their fourth win of the season from seven games, PBKS are placed fifth on the points table.
