The Indian cricketers will next be seen showcasing their talent in the greatest franchise T20 league in the world. The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to begin on March 31 and players participating in the cash-rich tournament have already started training with their respective franchises and the Indian cricketers, who were busy with national duties have now joined their respective franchises.

With Indian cricketers playing constant cricket and two marquee ICC events scheduled after the cash-rich tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has instructed the IPL franchises to 'not over-bowl' Indian bowlers, especially those who are in contention to play the World Test Championship (WTC) final and ODI World Cup.  The latest decision comes as part of the workload management with growing injuries in the Indian camp.

"Franchises have been told that the Indian team bowlers should be especially used with caution. IPL teams should not over-bowl them in the nets. They can focus more on strengthening and training. Players can do fielding drills but till the first week of May, franchises shouldn’t push them. After May first week, those players who are in contention can slowly increase their bowling time in the nets. The BCCI will get in touch with all franchises again,” The Indian Express quoted a BCCI official saying.

According to the report in The Indian Express, the message was conveyed to trainers of all IPL teams by Nitin Patel, who is a physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and Soham Desai, who is Team India’s strength and conditioning coach.

Meanwhile, after the completion of the India versus Australia ODI series, captain Rohit Sharma hinted that all players have been given 'indications' about workload management but later affirmed that the decision is up to the individuals and the franchise.

"I mean, it's all up to the franchises now," the Indian skipper had said.

"The franchises own them (players) now, so we've given some indications or some kind of borderline kind of thing to the teams. But at the end of the day it's up to the franchise and, most importantly it's the players you know, they have to take care of their own body.

"They (players) are all adults. So they have to look after their body and just if they feel that it's getting a little too much, they can always talk about it and have a break in one or two games. I doubt (if) that will happen but," Rohit, who will lead the Mumbai Indians added.
