(New Delhi) After the announcement of two new teams for next season of Indian Premier League, the players’ retention policy is the new hot topic. Franchises will be waiting on directives from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding how many players they can retain before the mega auction and during via Right to Match (RTM) card.
A source from one of the franchises told Sports Tak, “Retention is a big deal now and we are working on it because now we have two more teams in the pool. We will have to see whom to retain and whom not to. This is going to be tricky. So far, there is no communication from the board but in a day or two we are expecting to hear about the rules.”
Another source from the franchise said, “We are waiting for the exact rules of retention. Once we have the rules in hand, we will start working on our plan of retention”.
When asked that the number of players expected to be retained, the source further explained, “According to the initial discussion, the number of retentions allowed were three which I think is acceptable but nothing has been communicated from the board to us.”
Talking about the addition of the new teams and money which has been invested, he said, “This shows how big the IPL is with the kind of amount that has been invested. The two teams will make raise the competition level in IPL.”
On the other hand, BCCI is also working on the retention policy. A source within the board said, “Retention policy is our priority now we are working on it. In the coming days, we will finalize it. For now, all we can say is all teams will get a fair chance,”
“The 3+1, 2+2 (retention before the auction plus RTM card) retention policy was discussed but nothing has been finalised yet,” he added regarding the nature of retention policy to be introduced.
