In order to take care of players’ mental health, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official on Friday (March 25) said that Yo-Yo tests will not be made tougher in future. Notably, Yo-Yo tests are conducted for the selection of the Indian cricketers.

"No, we don't have any plans of making the Yo-Yo tests harder for the player, as it is not good for the mental health of the players. A lot of cricket is being played and we can't put unnecessary pressure on our players," a BCCI official told ANI.

The significance

BCCI had recently announced that cricketers who fail to clear the Yo-Yo tests will not be allowed to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition.

It is worth mentioning that Yo-Yo tests are mandatory for the team India players as they need to clear the test in order to find a place in top 15.

Recently, Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw had failed in the Yo-Yo test as he could not cross the 15-point mark. Hardik Pandya, who also appeared for the Yo-Yo test with Shaw, performed well. The 28-year-old, Indian all-rounder registered a Yo-Yo fitness score of 17-plus which is slightly above the 16.5 cut-off.

IPL schedule

The inaugural match of the IPL 2022 edition is scheduled to be played on March 26, between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai and the final match of the tournament will take place on May 29.

Mumbai Indians franchise led by Rohit Sharma will have Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A of the 2022 edition of IPL.

On the other hand, Group B is comprised of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.

With the addition of two new teams, this year’s IPL will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are the two new entrants. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will lead the Gujarat-based franchise in the 15th edition of the IPL and on the other hand, Indian batsman KL Rahul will be the skipper of LSG.
