After a humiliating-loss by 33 runs against Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 table-toppers, more bad news comes in Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) way. The team has been fined for maintaining slow over rate against CB at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 25.
This is Rajasthan-based franchise’s second offence of the ongoing season under IPL’s code of conduct related to minimum over rate offences.
The top-scorer of the match, RR skipper Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 24 lakh for the offence while other team members of the team fielded against DC face fine of either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of the individual’s match fee.
Samson’s RR maintained slow over rate despite bowling eight overs from the spinners. After the team’s fifth loss in the season, they are currently placed sixth on the points table with eight point from nine games. If RR maintain slow over rate in another match, Samson will have to pay Rs 30 lakh and serve one-match ban. At this stage of the tournament when RR need to win at least three matches from remaining five, it will be a massive blow to the side.
