Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) new recruit for the second phase of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), Sherfane Rutherford has left the bio-bubble to be with his family. Rutherford’s father passed away on September 23, the franchise confirmed on Twitter.

“The #SRH family conveys its heartfelt condolences to Sherfane Rutherford and his family on the passing away of his father. Sherfane will be leaving the IPL bio-bubble to be with his family in this difficult hour,” the bottom-placed SRH tweeted.

Rutherford was roped in by a struggling SRH as replacement for hard-hitting opener Jonny Bairstow. The Caribbean batsman had played seven matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2019.

Big blow for SRH
SRH have managed to win just one match out of eight games this season. A struggling SRH batting lineup could have used the southpaw’s services in the middle order, especially when David Warner has not been in the best of forms. Warner bagged a three-ball duck against Delhi Capitals (DC) as SRH posted a below par total of 134/9 which was easily chased down by the table-toppers.

The 23-year-old was the sixth-highest run-scorer in the recently-concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021. He scored 263 runs from 11 games at an average of 37.57 including three half-centuries. His knocks helped St Kitts and Nevis Patriots win their maiden CPL title.
