74 matches, 12 hundreds: Centuries galore as IPL 2023 scripts history; know which batters scored most runs in one match

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season climaxed on May 29 (Monday). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets (DLS method) at the Narendra Modi Stadium and became the just second team in league history to win the coveted title five times. MS Dhoni's men equaled the record of Mumbai Indians (MI) with their record-tying fifth IPL crown. The 16th edition of the cash-rich tournament will go down as one of the best seasons played in the competition's history. Old records were shattered and new milestones were scripted as the tournament paved the way for several glittering storylines.

Batters, in particular, dominated the tournament as the run-scoring ceiling was pushed to a height it has never reached before. The likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal staked a claim as flag-bearers of Indian cricket's next generation. Virat Kohli showed no signs of slowing down and secured a record of scoring the most centuries in IPL history. Overall, the bowlers had a hard time as willow-wielders provided immense entertainment to expectant fans.

IPL 2023 sees record 12 centuries

History was created in IPL 2023 as the tournament witnessed 12 centuries for the first time in a single season. A total of nine batters reached the magical three-figure mark in the recently-concluded edition of the cash-rich tournament. Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill recorded the most centuries (3) while Royal Challengers Bangalore's superstar Virat Kohli registered two centuries in the season. Apart from the two aforementioned batters, seven batters scored a century.

When it comes to the highest individual score, Gill topped the list with a score of 129 runs which he scored against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2. Jaiswal came second with a knock of 124 runs which he scored in just 62 balls.
