Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stumped Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets on Monday hurting their playoff chances. While Kane Williamson and his men got the second win of the season under their belt, it was forner skipper David Warner’s absence that was the most talked about topic post the match.
SRH coach Trevor Bayliss opened up on leaving out star Australian batter from the squad saying Warner was dropped against Royals to give opportunities to the youngsters in the squad as the team is already out of the contention for a playoff berth.
“We can’t make the finals, so we made a decision that we want the youngsters to experience not just the matches, but time at the ground and around the setup,” he told the media during the post-match press conference.
The head coach said the opener was supporting his teammates from the hotel.
“Dave obviously was watching the game at the hotel and giving his support to the boys. Just like everyone else. We’re all in this together," he said.
Meanwhile, on being asked about Warner’s future in the SRH, Bayliss said, “Look that certainly has not been discussed (Warner’s future in SRH). It is something that this is the last year before a major auction. Those decisions will be made further down the line. He has been great contributor to Hyderabad Sunrisers for a number of years now. He is very well respected with the amount of runs he has scored. I am sure he has got a lot of more runs in him yet in the IPL.”
This comes after Warner reportedly indicated he may never play for the franchise after fans asked him about his absence from the stadium during the team’s match against Royals.
