CSK vs MI: Ravindra Jadeja takes a blinder off his own bowling to save umpire from deadly blow, WATCH VIDEO

Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and might Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with each other in the battle of heavyweights at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday (April 8). 

 

MI lost their opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight wickets while CSK too lost their opening tie to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) but bounced came back stronger in the second match and defeated Lucknow Super Giants.

 

Meanwhile at Wankhede both the former champions started afresh as MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023's very own EL Clasico.   

 

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave MI a cracking start as the Paltans were 38 for no loss after 3.5 overs. But Tushar Deshpande rattled Rohit's stumps in the last bowl of the fourth over to give CSK their first breakthrough which saw the Hitman returning to the hut after scoring quickfire 21 off 13. MI lost another wicket in the form of Ishan, 32 off 21, in the seventh over but this time Ravindra Jadeja was the cause of dismissal. Mitchell Santner soon sent Suryakumar Yadav for 1 off 2 to leave MI reeling at 67/3 after 7.2 overs.

Jadeja came back to take one more in the ninth when he trapped Cameron Green. But the way he dismissed Green turned everyone's head. Sir Jadeja pulled off an incredible catch off his own bowling to get off Green threat. Green belted the ball towards Jadeja. CSK's star all-rounder placed his hands up to save himself from being hit. But the ball stuck in his right hand and the catch was completed. In the process Jadeja also saved umpire Chris Gaffaney from being hit. The ground umpire was all on his four to protect him from a nasty blow.

Jadeja returned with an exceptional spell of 20/3 as MI managed to post a total of 157/8 in their stipulated 20 overs. Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner too chipped in with two wickets each.
