'I had a chat with Mahi bhai': Deepak Chahar reveals guru mantra received from MS Dhoni after successful outing against DC

Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rode on a complete team performance and defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 27 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 10 (Wednesday). The Men in Yellow knocked David Warner's men on the doors of elimination while improving their record to seven wins after playing 12 matches. With 15 points, MS Dhoni's men are just one win away from qualifying for the playoffs.

Defending a score of 167 runs, CSK got off to a great start with the ball as premier pacer Deepak Chahar dismissed DC skipper David Warner for a duck on the second ball of the innings and the Delhi-based franchise never recovered after losing their captain early. After dismissing Warner, Deepak Chahar also bagged the wicket of dangerous Phil Salt (17 runs off 11 balls).

Deepak revealed the advice he received from MS Dhoni on how to bowl on wickets that are slow and sluggish. The right-arm pacer also gave an update on his fitness and confirmed that he is still not 100% fit.

"It was swinging nicely and at the same time, the pitch was slow. I had a chat with Mahi bhai, when the wickets are getting slower, you don't need to bowl fast, bowl slow and swing it, it's difficult for the batters to get the boundaries in the powerplay, he said. We thought the wicket would slow down in the 2nd innings and it was cloudy, so no dew - that's why Mahi bhai decided to bat first," Cricbuzz quoted Chahar as saying after the game.

"165 was a par score on this track. Powerplay was crucial as the ball comes nicely and we had a great powerplay. It is very difficult with injuries, every time you get injured you start from zero. Still not 100% but trying to do a job to contribute to the team," the CSK speedster added.
