The mega Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions will take place on February 12 and February 13. A lot of speculations have started taking place regarding the probable signings and various strategies opted by the IPL franchises. In a situation like this, one cricketer who has already started gathering attention is South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis.
Solid innings
The right-handed batsman is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the Comilla Victorians side and in a recent match against Chattogram Challengers he played a terrific knock of 83 runs off just 55 deliveries. His innings was comprised of 8 boundaries and 3 sixes and it helped his side Comilla Victorians in securing a 52-run win against Chattogram Challengers in BPL.
The former South Africa skipper was the second-highest run-scorer in last edition’s IPL. He had scored 633 runs in the 2021 edition at an average of 45.21 and with a strike rate of 138.20. He was not retained by the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
In a situation like this, former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has opened up on the matter and said that the former CSK batter will be “the most sought out player in the auction.”
Hogg's words
“Du Plessis will be the most sought out player in the auction, because of his leadership skills,” Hogg said on his official YouTube channel.
"RCB, PBKS and KKR and CSK will go for him. He has leadership skills which is why the other three teams will look to bring him in. He is very consistent at the top of the order as well. I reckon he could go for 7 Crore, could blow out to 11 crores, after especially what he did last year,” the 50-year-old former spinner further added.
CSK had retained four players and those cricketers are- skipper MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and England all-rounder Moeen Ali.
Indian all-rounder Jadeja was retained for Rs 16 crore, Moeen Ali was retained for Rs 8 crore and on the other hand Dhoni was kept in the side for Rs 12 crore.
The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have Rs 48 crore currently in their purse.
