Abdul Samad became one of the two uncapped players Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained ahead of big names for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Samad is ecstatic on getting retained in SRH's core group and hopes to deliver for the franchise irrespective for the role he gets in the next edition. In an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak, Samad talked about the added responsibility, getting most of the players back along with one impact player he expects to play alongside again from previous year's team.

“I hope that we get all the players back but if I have to choose one impact player who will be the best for the team, it will be the world's best spinner Rashid Khan. His return will surely benefit the team,” Samad said.

“When you play with someone for two years, you create a bond with them. I will surely miss them. I also hope that most of the players return to the team after the auction which will be good for them and the side,” he added.

The big-hitting batter is also proud that he and Umran Malik got retained from a state that has produced only few players who have made a mark in IPL.

“I can't describe that feeling but there will be responsibility on me for the trust they have showed. It is a big thing for our state (Jammu & Kashmir) that Umran (Malik) and I have been retained and both of us are uncapped,” the 20-year-old said.

“We talk to each other almost on a daily basis. He was telling me that I hope both of us get to play for the same team. We share a special bond like brothers and it feels good to play for the same team. Currently, he is on South Africa tour so when he comes back we will catch up,” he added.

The youngster who played the finishing role for the Hyderabad-based franchise in the last two seasons is also ready to play any role he gets going ahead.

“When I join the team, my role will be decided there. I will try to adapt irrespective of what it is as I have the capability. For the last two seasons I have been playing the role of finisher. It is up to them what role I get and I am ready for it,” the middle-order batter said.

Like Malik's sensational spells got him noticed by selectors for India A's tour of South Africa and as net bowler for T20 World Cup 2021, Samad believes that IPL performances will open the doors for him as well.

“When I join the team, my role will be decided there. I will try to adapt irrespective of what it is as I have the capability. For the last two seasons I have been playing the role of finisher. It is up to them what role I get and I am ready for it,” a confident Samad said.
